The Acadian Redfish Folk Fish T-Shirt isn’t just another design in the Folk Fish Studio collection. This particular fish is tied directly to the story of how Jason Smith’s hand-carved fish artwork found its way onto apparel.
The artwork on this shirt originates from an actual wooden fish hand carved and hand painted by artist Jason Smith of Morrow, Ohio.
And the story behind this particular carving begins with a very special trip.
THE ACADIA STORY — SEPTEMBER 2025
In September 2025, Jason and his wife, Kristin, traveled to Acadia National Park in Maine to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.
Jason carved this fish specifically for their Acadia trip.
Like many of his Folk Fish, it started as a piece of wood and was shaped, carved, and individually painted by hand. But this particular fish would end up representing something more.
While Jason and Kristin were traveling through Acadia, Jason had an idea:
What if the artwork from his hand-carved fish could be turned into T-shirts and other merchandise?
That simple thought during their 25th anniversary trip became part of the inspiration behind what would become the Folk Fish Studio apparel collection.
So when you wear the Acadian Redfish, you’re wearing artwork connected to the trip where the idea of turning Jason’s fish carvings into wearable art really began.
THE ACADIAN REDFISH
The Acadian Redfish design captures the distinctive character of Jason’s original hand-carved and painted fish.
The larger artwork on the back preserves the handcrafted look and personality of the original carving, while the smaller chest artwork keeps the front clean and understated.
It’s equally at home on the boat, around the lake, along the coast, at fishing camp, or on your own next adventure.
And even if the person standing behind you doesn’t know the story, they’ll probably ask about the fish.
