Bluegill Camo Richardson 256P Hat | Embroidered Fishing Hat | Original Wood-Carved Fish Art

From a hand-carved bluegill to a fishing hat built for the outdoors.

The Folk Fish Studio Bluegill Camo Hat combines the classic outdoor look of a Richardson 256P camo cap with an original piece of fish art created by Jason Smith of Morrow, Ohio.

Front and center is a custom oval Folk Fish Studio patch featuring a bluegill design created with a combination of embroidery and sublimation.

But the bluegill on the patch didn’t start as a computer-generated fishing graphic.

The artwork comes from Jason’s original hand-carved and hand-painted bluegill.

That physical piece of fish art was transformed into the detailed patch design, taking Jason’s original carving from the workshop to a hat made for fishermen.

FROM WOOD CARVING TO EMBROIDERED PATCH

At Folk Fish Studio, the artwork starts with the fish—not the hat.

Jason creates his original Folk Fish as physical pieces of artwork in Morrow, Ohio.

The bluegill that inspired this hat began as a piece of wood.

Jason shaped and carved the fish by hand and then individually painted it, adding the colors, markings, texture, and personality that give the original Folk Fish its distinctive character.

Artwork from that carving was then adapted for the oval hat patch.

The patch combines stitched embroidery with sublimated artwork, allowing the design to retain more of the color and detail of Jason’s original painted bluegill while still having the dimensional look and texture of an embroidered fishing patch.

Carved by hand. Painted by hand. Reimagined in thread and color.
