Some people see a bluegill. Grandpa Ray saw a fish sandwich.

The Groceries Folk Fish Hoodie is one of the more personal designs in the Folk Fish Studio collection.

For Jason Smith, bluegill bring back memories of being a young boy, spending countless hours fishing with his Grandpa Ray at the pay lake his grandfather owned.

Some of those days were spent along the bank.

But some of the best were spent together in an old jon boat, fishing the lake and filling the hours with bluegill, stories, and the kind of simple memories that stick with you for the rest of your life.

Whenever Jason caught a bluegill that was getting close to eating size, Grandpa Ray had a saying:

“That’s a fish sandwich.”

And plenty of those bluegill eventually became exactly that.

Fish sandwiches.

Or, as we like to call them now…

Groceries.

FROM THOSE MEMORIES TO FOLK FISH

At Folk Fish Studio, the artwork starts with the fish—not the hoodie.

Artist Jason Smith of Morrow, Ohio creates original fish artwork by hand, carving fish from wood and individually painting them before transforming that artwork into designs for Folk Fish Studio apparel.

But the inspiration behind the artwork goes much further back.

It comes from a lifetime spent around fishing.

Family.

Old boats.

Local lakes.

Fish stories.

And people like Grandpa Ray.

The Groceries Bluegill connects the fish art Jason creates today with some of his earliest memories of why fishing mattered in the first place.
